    The A. Ray Olpin Student Union is hiring for the role of Event Manager. This role will provide the Student Union team with a variety of services, including the scheduling of event reservation requests, coordinating and implementing all arrangements for the Union and Gardner Commons’ events and meetings, setting up equipment and furnishings for events, and managing audiovisual (AV) technology during events.

    Job Duties:
    • Receive telephone, in-person, and online requests for event reservations and make appropriate arrangements
    • Answer emails within one business day, communicate with Chartwells Dining Services daily, process credit card transactions, print setup worksheets, finalize setup details, and attend weekly meetings.
    • Inspect building and all room setups throughout the day to ensure that cleaning and setup have been completed before events
    • Become familiar with setups, takedowns, and all Union equipment
    • Be a resident expert on AV equipment, including but not limited to projectors, speakers, microphones, mixers, and lights
    • Work AV during events, including occasional evening or weekend events
    • Assist crew as needed with setups, takedowns, trash, tables, chairs, linens, etc
    • Other miscellaneous tasks as assigned

    Dress Code:
    • Pants with no holes. Shorts are permitted in warmer months.
    • Look professional and clean
    • Union-provided work shirts are required. Union provided sweaters are permitted in the colder months.

    Training Description

    Training will require a newly hired event manager to spend time working with different Union staff members to become familiar with the event workflow. You will go over equipment use, maintenance, and storage. You will also be trained on the reservation process and interface.

    More training will come with experience. Event Managers handle different tasks that cannot always be foreseen and covered by training. It is up to you to problem solve and handle many different situations, but the training will help prepare you.

    Hours of Work

    You will work a max of 20 hr. per week. Some hours may fluctuate weekly depending on event needs and your schedule, but relative consistency will be maintained.

    Position Amenities

    • Textbooks paid by the Union from Inclusive access or physical copies.
    • Pay starts at $14.00 with with semi-annual raises.
    • Get paid every 7th and 22nd of each month.

    Position Requirements

    • This is a University of Utah student job; you are required to be a currently enrolled University of Utah student.
    • Able to lift speakers and equipment that weighs around 20-50 lbs
    • Must be an efficient and productive worker with an ability to react quickly under pressure
    • AV background not required but favorable especially in sound and speaker systems
