    Union Programming Council Updates 9/2017

Union Programming Council had a very successful start to this school year. Here’s a blurb from our Union Programming Council Director of Community Service, Jesse Craig:

“Welcome Week took place from August 21st – 25th. Thousands of students participated in the week-long event on the Union Patio from 10 AM – 2 PM each day. Vendors included long-time Union supporters – Comcast, Mountain America Credit Union, and the University Credit Union – as well as new vendors such as Cotopaxi, Dunkin’ Donuts, and The Porcupine Pub and Grill. Student groups and departments participated in their own unique ways as well: snow-cones, plinko games, quizzes, and giveaways made their marketing a success. Overall, Welcome Week was a great way to bring in the new academic year, and showcase some of the assets the University of Utah has to offer.”

A new activity this year is the weekly “Humpday Activity” this was started by Max Alfonso, the Union Programming Council Director of the Freshman Ambassador Board (FAB). Each Wednesday at 11:30 AM in the Union Food court, UPC works with a different organization on campus to bring awareness to that office and have fun with student passersby.

For example, UPC teamed up with the Personal Money Management Center for one of the “Humpday Activities.” They played dart games and won prizes from popping certain balloons.

An upcoming event is the Harvest Festival on September 21 on the Union Patio. A link to the event may be found here:  https://www.facebook.com/events/1496629240403887.
