All Roads Lead to the Union: Newsletter
This year the University of Utah Farmers Market celebrates its 11th season on campus. The Farmers Market is a collection of local growers, artisans, and businesses from our campus and around the Salt Lake Valley. From its beginnings, the market has aimed to foster a community environment and emphasize sustainable living. The Farmers Market hosts a variety of locally created and beautifully designed crafts and produce. Vendors this year represent cultures and countries ranging from Syria, to Puerto Rico, to Africa, and more. Local vendors this year include Bubble & Brown Bakery, Dali Crepes, Salsa Del Diablo, Tequeños Factory, Local First, and the U’s own Edible Garden.
In the spirit of fostering community all produce not sold from the Edible Garden is donated to the Feed U Pantry. The Feed U Pantry is an on-campus food pantry for students, their families, faculty, and staff; for more information visit feedu.utah.edu.
The Farmers Market also features the Double Your Dollar program which uses the two-for-one system with support from the University of Utah Health. Students are able to purchase tokens to exchange for eligible fruits, vegetables, salsa, and baked goods around the market. Since its inception the Double Your Dollars has helped over 500 students. The market provides an incredible opportunity to connect the campus to the greater Salt Lake community. The market is held every Thursday for the first seven weeks of the fall semester in-between the A. Ray Olpin University Union and Student Services buildings on Tanner Plaza. Sponsors this year include 90.9 KRCL, U Health, A. Ray Olpin University Union, Slug Magazine, and Mama Africa.
Come check out the Farmers Market on the patio between the Union and Student Services Building on Thursdays next year during the 2019 Fall Semester!
