Crimson Transfer Honors Society at the U

At most public, four-year universities, transfer students comprise a population that is often overlooked. Originally established in 2013 as the Tau Sigma Honors Society, the Crimson Transfer Honors Society (CTHS) is an honors society established for transfer students at the University of Utah. The purpose of CTHS is: to recognize academic success of all transfer students at the U; encourage and support transfer students as they transition into their majors and graduate school; get transfer students involved on campus and help find ways they can serve their community; and, encourage members of CTHS in aiding other transfer students as they acculturate to their new campus.

In order to be eligible for CTHS membership, students must meet the following criteria:

    • Be a transfer student
    • Earn at least a 3.5 GPA while completing at least 12 credit hours the first semester or 12 credit hours over two consecutive semesters.
    • Attend at least two transfer workshops during their first semester at the U, and pay a one-time $50.00 membership fee.

The money generated from the membership fees goes directly to support CTHS scholarships and events hosted throughout the year. If paying for the CTHS application presents a financial constraint, there are limited membership fee waivers available. Students should contact Paul Fisk (paul.fisk@utah.edu) in the Center for Ethnic Student Affairs for information about fee waivers.

Some of the benefits of joining CTHS include the opportunity for campus engagement, applying for CTHS scholarships, engaging in community service learning and leadership opportunities, networking with other transfer students, and receiving a graduation cord and certificate at graduation.

Eligible students will be invited to apply early the following semester to join CTHS. Students will then be invited to an induction ceremony. For more information about how you can join, please contact Tammy Nguyen (tnguyen@sa.utah.edu) in the Office of Orientation and Transition.
